How to Recycle at the Office

The office can be busy, and workdays can be long. With this being said, it is understandable that many office staffs and employees don’t really make recycling a priority on a daily basis. In this blog, we will suggest some simple and effortless ways to achieve an Eco-friendly work environment by recycling, reusing, conserving, and more!

Recycling is Eco-Friendly

Recycling is a wonderful, eco-friendly method to conserving our natural resources, reducing waste, and protecting our environment. Even the smallest effort is a substantial contribution to the Eco-friendly world efforts, however, recycling goes far beyond your typical blue and yellow bins for glass, paper, and soda cans. There are easy and clever ways to recycle office supplies and more on a daily basis. Here are a few effective tips to encourage and facilitate office recycling:

Office Supplies

So many office supplies are thrown away and wasted on a daily basis, when in fact, there are several items that can not only be recycled, but reused! Items like manila folders, paper clips, and binders can all be reused, over and over again. There is no need to ever throw away paper clips! Folders will deteriorate and weaken overtime, understandably, so they can be recycled as paper! Reusing binders and more can reduce office waste by hundreds of dollars each year. Office managers are encouraged to place recycling bins and a box assigned for reusable office supplies in the common area of their work space to encourage this movement.

Plastic Items

So many plastics get tossed and thrown away when they can easily be washed and reused. Water cooler cups, plastic utensils, and more can be washed in the break room and reused again. This saves a great deal of money and helps reduce office waste. Managers may also encourage employees to bring reusable drink cups or thermoses to fill up, rather than using a plastic water cooler cup once and then throwing it away. Keep a plastic recycling bin in the office as well, for those who have plastic waste to toss.

Paper

Did you know you can use both sides of a piece of paper? Well then why don’t you! Almost 90% of paper used in a typical office workplace is thrown away after using only one side. Hand notes, grocery lists, meeting notes, and more are one-sided jobs, but you can also use that other side! Flip those sheets over and use the other side, reducing your paper waste by 50 percent! Also keep a recycling bin designated for paper waste to encourage Eco-friendly recycling.

Metal

This may be news to you, but there are various scrap metal recycling companies that accept all forms of junk metal. Some companies even pay cash on the spot for recyclable metal commodities. At the office, look for anything metal that you generally toss away, and save these items in a separate been to recycle at the end of every month. Then use the cash to order pizza’s for lunch for the entire office! Recyclable metal items around the office include electronics, laptops, computers, modems, fax machines, copiers, vending machines, HVAC equipment, microwaves, answering machines, keyboards, phones, remote controls, video recording devices, video surveillance, navigation equipment, speakers, circuit boards, electric wiring, paperclips, staples, and more. Whether destroyed, damaged, or brand-new, metal recycling companies will accept these items for reprocessing purposes.

Should I Buy a Recycled Never-Deployed Airbag?

Indianapolis Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

Indianapolis Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

When a car is sold to a junk car lot, it is often times damaged or totaled. But just because the car or truck is deemed a total loss does not mean that all of its parts are completely useless. When a vehicle is considered totaled, it is not always due to a severe collision or impact. Sometimes, basic mechanical problems will render a car junked. In these cases, never-deployed airbags can most likely be reused in another vehicle.

Many automotive parts can be purchased at a junk car or metal recycling center at a fraction of their market values. And airbags are a common commodity offered for sale at such locations. The question on everyone’s mind is whether or not it is safe to purchase and install a used, but never-deployed, airbag as a replacement for their recently deployed airbag. Continue reading for the answer.

Recycled Airbags

If an airbag has never been deployed, it is still in its original condition. So after used, never-deployed airbags are sent through a strict and concentrated inspection and certification process, they are generally a safe purchase. It is just very important to choose a trusted, reputable vendor to ensure your airbag is quality-assured.

Where to Look

The most common places to procure a used, never-deployed air bag is a new car dealership. This is because their used or refurbished auto parts are almost always backed by a guarantee. Also, buying from a mainstream car dealership costs much more, usually between $900 and $2000 for an airbag. So it is recommended to seek out other vendors that offer similar guarantees and warranties on auto parts. Because new car dealerships are not the only ones who offer them.

Better Prices

Local junk car lots and scrap metal recycling centers are prime examples of companies that often sell or buy used auto parts, OEM auto parts, and new auto parts at discounted prices. Many of which even provide warranties on their products. These vendors are a cost-effective alternative to paying high dealership prices for an OEM never-deployed airbag.

Cell phones, mobile devices, and other electronics have certainly changed the way we function and operate in our daily lives. These kinds of technologies have changed the world! There are so many advantages and benefits of owning a cell phone, lap top, iPod, DVD players, iPads, tablets, and more; which is why so many own devices just like these.

But with all the changing technologies and innovation, newer models are being introduced to the market everyday as demand changes and technology is improved. This leads to a surplus of old, used, or discarded electronic and mobile devices.

Environmental Concerns

The surplus of old and discarded electronics is a problem for our surrounding Eco-systems and the environment as a whole. This is because cell phones and other electronic devices contain hazardous metals and materials that are not biodegradable and harmful for the Earth. Common toxic substances found in such commodities include cadmium, poly vinyl chloride, nickel beryllium, zinc, lead, and even arsenic!

Cell phones make up 65 tons of toxic materials discarded in landfills each year, and that number continues to grow! These toxic substances, materials, and chemicals pollute the ground soil, local water supplies, and even the air if burned in junkyard incinerators. This is a major environmental concern, but fortunately, there is a solution. That solution is recycling! Recycling these materials is the only responsible and effective method to discarding such toxic substances.

Is Precious Metal a Good Long-Term Investment?

Precious Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

Precious Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

A precious metal is a naturally-occurring metallic chemical element. In modern society, a precious metal has high economic value, but that hasn’t changed much over time. Historically, precious metals were used as currency, so it is no surprise they are still used for investment purposes today. The most well-known precious metals are gold, silver, and platinum; but there are several others as well, including palladium, zirconium, tungsten, cobalt, chromium, beryllium, bismuth, germanium, iridium, rhodium, and much more.

As for modern investing, gold, silver, platinum, and palladium are the most common precious metals used, each retaining an ISO 4217 currency code. But are these a good long-term investment? Continue reading and decide for yourself!

The Ebbs and Flows of Demand

The demand for precious metal will rise and fall over and over again, overtime. But these ebbs and flows in metal values are not something to worry too much about. That is because precious metal will always remain a sold and forgiving investment, and can diverse your financial portfolio in a highly-complimentary way. Investing in precious metal can also offer protection against the risk of inflation and dollar depreciation. If you look at the history of precious metal values, you will notice that they have ultimately risen at or ahead of the rate of inflation. This will teach you that the value of precious metal rises slowly but steadily overtime.

Although purchased in cash, precious metals are not like stocks and other paper assets that can be subjected to certain obligations and requirements. Instead, they are private, tangible, liquid assets that are endowed with finite inherent value. And since you are in possession of the metals, you are not legally required to account for them in your portfolio for the government, banks, and financial institutions.

Tin
Brass
Lead
Zinc
Nickle
Tungsten
Cobalt

Scrap an Old Air Conditioner for Cash

Indianapolis Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

Indianapolis Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

Now that temperatures are dropping and autumn is here, people are making the switch from air-conditioning to heating. And during this time, many of these same people are throwing out their old, broken-down air conditioners with plans to purchase new ones next year. So where do all these old air-conditioners go? If disposed of properly, they go to a scrap metal junkyard. Here, they are dismantled for all their valuable metal parts, and reused in various ways.

Continue reading to learn more about scrap metal air-conditioners and how to profit from recycling them.

Air Conditioner Recycling

Because air conditioners contain Freon refrigerant, it is important that they are disposed of properly. In most cases, if you want to recycle and air conditioner, you must hire a licensed professional to remove all Freon refrigerant and residual oils first. Most scrap metal recycling companies will not accept air-conditioners that still have Freon in them. This is for safety reasons. And keep in mind, it is illegal to remove the Freon yourself. Attempting to do so can result in a hefty fine from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Making Money

Indianapolis Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

Indianapolis Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

There are several metals inside and air conditioner that make valuable and worth. These include copper, steel, aluminum, and more. The amount of money a junk AC unit will teach you depends on the condition that the metal components in the current market prices for that particular metal. The metal is measured by weight, and the weight determines the amount of cash you will receive for selling it.

Many people recycle their air-conditioners whole, which burns them a set dollar. But you can earn more if you dismantled air-conditioner first, and then sell each part individually. Since this require specialized tools and a certain degree of engineering knowledge, most people do not choose this option. It is more cost-effective to simply sell the air conditioner as a whole.

Scrap Metal Buyers

If you have an old air conditioner you wish to sell, choose a reliable resource to earn the highest investment for your scrap metal. Popular sources for selling old junk air conditioners include metal refineries, junk yards, and scrap metal recycling companies. Just be sure to select a scrap metal buyer that has experience and a good reputation within the surrounding community. These are the type of scrap metal buyers you can trust.

Forget the Spark Test and Opt for an XRF Metal Analyzer Instead!

Indianapolis Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

Indianapolis Metal Recycling 317-244-0700

Have you ever wondered how metal refineries and scrap yards detect which metals they are buying? Before innovative technologies were available, like an XRF Analyzer, anyone who wanted to know what alloys were in their scrap metal had to use the age-old “spark test.”

But in order to even read spark test results accurately, you have to know what to look for. This is because the spark test is gauged by the color, intensity, and consistency of a spark produced from the metal. These variables tell a person what metals are in the scrap they have. So experience is essential to not only performing,
but reading a spark test.

For this reason, an XRF Analyzer, and other devices like it, have become a popular technology in the metal recycling and refining industry. Not only are they easier to administer and comprehend, they are much more accurate. Continue reading to learn more about this innovative metal detecting device, and who to call for the best return on investment for your junk metal.

X-Ray Fluorescence Metal Detectors

The device known as an XRF Metal Analyzer is a tool that can automatically detect what alloys exist in metal objects. The acronym “XRF” stands for “x-ray fluorescence” since the technology works by passing fluorescent x-rays over the object to read the elements inside. It shoots small amounts of radiation into the metal, which allows it to learn the objects composition. The science, although quite complex, is very effective.

They can read almost all alloys and metals, including:

• Tungsten
• Aluminum
• Steel
• Iron
• Nickel
• Cobalt
• Copper
• Brass
• Precious Metals
• And More

Since the cost of such devices are so high (usually in the tens of thousands), many scrappers do not own one. But serious scrapper do because they are an incredible technology that is highly lucrative for the metal buying and selling industry. If you are a serious scrapper, or wish to sell scrap metal, you want your freight analyzed with excellent technology like XRF metal analyzers.
